‘Wild, weird, wonderful… there are many ways to describe the Crazy House (also known as Hang Nga Guesthouse) in Đà Lạt.’
‘Standing in stark contrast to Dalat’s French colonial villas, the bizarre avant garde guesthouse is a maze of spiral staircases, sculptural bedrooms, undulating surfaces, swirls of bright colors, narrow bridges and hidden nooks.
The artist behind the structure, 79-year-old Dang Viet Nga, says it’s the ultimate expression of her imagination.
“Crazy House is a culmination of my life and creativity – it all came together in this structure,” Dang, daughter of Vietnam’s former general secretary Truong Chin‘
We took a boat, and had brekkie on the Mekong Delta, visiting Cái Răng floating market, once the largest floating market or, chợ nổi, in Vietnam. It’s hard to explain how it works, or what we saw, and the history here. Or, the people who live, day to day, along the Mekong, illegally, but legally, just trying to live. We definitely recommend doing something like this if visiting, as these old floating markers are slowing dying off.
We spent some time stepping back, and relaxing along the famous, 'Nine Dragon River Delta'. The Mekong Delta, Đồng bằng Sông Cửu Long. Even warmer and more humid than Ho Chi Minh City, and a whole other world away from an Asian hub city, to a stripped back, rural part of Vietnam.
We took a private, driven transfer from Ho Chi Minh City.
